I have always observed that the web is full of scams about online data entry jobs or typing jobs. Either they promise very high pay which is too good to believe or they ask for upfront pay before you start the job.
They promise to pay $70 per hour or so, which is quite high for data entry roles. There are hardly any typing gigs that pay so high.
So, why are there so many scams regarding online data entry or typing jobs?
It is quite evident that data entry or typing jobs are hard to get and many people look for them; especially they are the most wanted jobs for anybody working from home. They seem to be the easiest option to work from home for many.
However, it is possible to find legitimate typing opportunities online, though they are less and they might not be very high paying ones.
Here are some websites which offer typing gigs, one thing you might want to remember is, the pay for these is fairly low when compared to other online work options.
Quicktate is a company hiring remote typists to transcribe audio files, medical reports, legal notes, letters and notes. They require a background check, and you need to pass a quick test before getting hired. They don’t need any prior experience.
This company hires independent typists. You need to have a speed of at least 60 words per minute and with 90% accuracy. For general applicants, there is a requirement of a minimum of 1-year experience.

This company hires at home typists for typing voters petitions. They don’t have many openings, but it’s worth checking the website. This company only hires in the US.
Amazon’s Mechanical Turk is more of a micro tasks place with typing gigs also available intermittently. You might not make much from these, but it’s good extra cash.
Lionbridge is the company behind The Smart Crowd. You need to take short qualifying test before you start. The pay is around $.60 cents for 1000 characters, and this is an extra income option.
Clickworker is a bit similar to Mechanical Turk. It has many other micro tasks apart from typing projects, like data annotation, writing, translation, etc. The pay is per task. There is an assessment after you apply.
If you are looking to find some freelancing jobs without having to pay any fees and search for companies and businesses which recruit freelancers, then Hubstaff talent is the place to go. It is a free platform where freelancers can register and find companies to work with.
Tips to remember when looking for data entry jobs,
There are a couple of things you should keep in mind when applying for data entry jobs.
Some roles do ask for good typing speeds, so check your typing speed before applying.
Usually, typing jobs pay less unless they are more like transcription roles.
It is easy to fall for data entry scams as they everywhere on the web, don’t ever pay for a data entry/typing gigs beforehand.
Always keep in mind, these gigs might not pay very well and you won’t make a full-time income.
If you want to take your typing skills to a higher level, then I suggest Transcription. Though there is listening involved along with typing in this role, it is a much high paying position than the general typing jobs.
If you want to start your Transcription career, then the best place is Transcribe Anywhere. This is a very popular course teaching everything about transcription. If you are confused and want to test if this is for you, then they also have a FREE course.
It can be hard to get past the scammy data entry jobs, but the above websites offer authentic typing gigs. If you are happy with the pay and want to keep it as a side hustle, give it a go. There are ofcourse, other ways to make money, if you are looking for just extra money.
