National Consumer Panel is a consumer research panel backed by the trusted Nielsen group. They study customer purchase behavior to help improve the products.
There is no doubt about the legitimacy of this panel. National Consumer Panel also offers some surveys along with scanning your purchases, which can speed up your point accumulation.

How does it work?
The process is simple. Once you sign up for it, you can either choose to use a scanner that National Consumer Panel will send to you or use the app.
You scan the purchases with the app or scanner and rake in the points. With the scanner, you have to transmit the data every week. The process is much simpler with the app.
It asks you to share the quantity of the purchase and whether you used a coupon. On average, it might take an hour or two to scan and upload per week depending on your purchases.
Keep in mind, sometimes the barcodes might not get scanned, and then you will have to do them manually, but based on my research, it scans most of the items.
What rewards do you get?
Based on the points that you have accumulated, you can redeem for many rewards like Amazon e-vouchers, Visa gift cards, iTunes gift cards, etc. You can also do surveys once in a while to add to your points.
The key is to keep scanning to build up your points balance and get rewards.
Is it worth your time?
If you are willing to take some time to scan the bar codes after your shopping to make some extra cash, then this might be for you. You will not be making much, but if you are going to shop, then getting some extra money out of it is worth it, right?!

A few things to remember:
